DIGITAL MIGRATION

Meredith organized Africa's first regional workshop on analog to digital television migration in 2012, bringing experts from the Federal Communications Commission in the United States, who, for the first time, shared their expertise outside of the US. Meredith's organization – the African Media Initiative brought together stakeholders from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi & Ethiopia. Delegates included TV owners & managers, government ministry & regulatory officials, engineers, ad agency reps, set-top-box distributors & other members of the value chain.

The African broadcast and film industry is evolving quickly, driven by demand and a need to tell the continent's story.

Beal has been consulting several governments including Kenya, Rwanda & Benin on creative economy legislation. Beal formed an alliance between the African Media Initiative -- the continent's largest umbrella organization of media owners and FEPACI -- the Pan African Federation of Filmmakers, which represents over 1,000 filmmakers in 40 countries. Beal joins CNBC Africa to discuss emerging opportunities.
